About Greenways

Greenways Levy

Why it's important

The Greenways IV Levy will be on our November 8th ballot this year. We encourage you to vote YES and re-authorize a popular property tax levy that has been continuously in place since 1990 to fund the Greenways program. Voting YES ensures the support of a first class system of parks, trails, and open spaces in Bellingham.

The visionary Greenways program expresses our communities’ desire to incorporate urban forests, shorelines, trails, and open spaces into the fabric of our lives and that of our growing City. Greenways has created beloved public places such as Cordata Park, Squalicum Creek Park, the Railroad Trail from Whatcom Falls to Barkley, Taylor Street Dock, and the Fairhaven Village Green, to name only a few excellent examples of Greenways’ accomplishments to date. Bellingham now is truly defined by our Greenways systems.

Funding Greenways is still critical. This levy, a seven-cent reduction from previous levies, creates public parks and trails on our new waterfront and downtown; it secures needed funding for development and restoration of sites previously acquired; it ensures we maintain and steward our existing parks and trails; and it permits completion of trail linkages throughout our City. Each Greenways Levy is a vote of confidence in our community.

Please VOTE YES on Bellingham Proposition One.
